After a very successful Team Challenge in 2011 with 31 teams, the Cairns Road Runners are proud and excited to host the second Team Challenge in 2012! Make sure you take up the challenge or challenge someone yourself and come along for a great fun day out.
The Team Challenge is a running/walking event which allows you to challenge your workmates or rivals to determine who is the best. We are looking for the fastest, the biggest and the best dressed teams in town.

Venue: Parklands by the Fun Ship on the Esplanade
Conditions:
Team must have 4 team members. Other sized teams do not qualify for prizes.
Run or walk 5k along the Esplanade. This is not a relay, all team members set off together.
Age: 16+
Event Categories (tbc):
- Team Challenge Cup – this is the major trophy for the overall winning team.
- Company Cup – winning team from a company entering more than 2 teams.
- The ‘We’re better than you’ cup – for the winning teams who challenged/took up the challenge from their rivals. (You must have registered for this category to be elligable).

Race Entry Fee (21 July – 6 September): $20/person
Late Entry Fee: $25/person (No medals for those who enter late)

FAQ
How do I enter a team?….The team captain must complete the entry form for the four team members. They will need to know your team name, and each participants’ full name, email address, telephone number, date of birth, gender and emergency contact information.
I can’t find three other people to make a team. What can I do?…. Come along on Wednesday nights to our social run and drum up some team mates. (We meet each Wednesday at 5.30pm just north of Muddy’s Playground). Or put a request out on our Facebook page. Compete with less members in your team – but you will still need to payfor four team members.
Can someone take my place?…. Only if the Race Organisers have been notified by 6.30am on race day and the person taking your place signs the waiver.
Where does the course go and how long is it? …..A map is available showing the course. It is 5km along the footpaths and cycle paths on the Cairns Esplanade.
Is it a relay? ….. No, all team members set off together. Each team member will run/walk the race individually but your cumulative time is used to determine the overall winners.
Is there an age restriction? …..yes. This is a corporate event, you must be 16+ to participate.
Is there a limit on participants? …..no
How fit do I have to be? ….. Anyone is welcome to participate – walk if you want to!
Is there any pre-training available? ….. Yes, the Cairns Road Runners meet each Wednesday night on the Esplanade (just north of Muddy’s Playground) at 5.30pm. There is also Beginner Runners’ Clinics from 16 July – 3 September 2012.
Can I dress up in a costume? ….Of course! The more fun you have at the event the better, so feel free to dress up for a tropical run, in a gorilla costume, your best fluoro outfits or something to represent your company/organisation. It’s up to you and the sky is the limit!!
Can I enter on the day? …… Cut off is 6.30am. So get there early. A late entry fee applies.
Is there adequate parking? ….. Yes. Parking at the Fun Ship and also along the Esplanade.
Is there somewhere to leave my gear? ….. No. Organise to lock it in someone’s car.
Can I wear an iPod? ….. Yes – provided it is turned down low enough to hear instructions from marshals, other runners and the general public.
Can I push a pram? …… No
Can I run with a dog? …… No.
Can I get a refund on my entry fee? …. Full refund less 10% administration fee if you advise us by email any time before 9.00pm on 6 September 2012. No monetary refund if you let us know after this time. For refunds please email Rosie Ball on treasurer@roadrunners.org.au
What happens if it’s raining? …. Do you live in Cairns or what? The event will only be cancelled if there are severe weather conditions such as flash flooding, thunder and lightning or strong winds. The Event Organisers reserves the right to cancel the event at short notice depending on severe weather conditions.
What happens if I start in the wrong group? ….The start is set up to allow those who want to win to stand on the startline! If you are there just to participate, stand further back in the field to ensure the competitors don’t run you over. There will be markers out showing various start locations, go where it best suits you.
What do I do if I don’t feel well, or hurt myself during the race? ….Report to the marshals on the course or the volunteers at the Recording desk.
Do you record my finish time and placement? …Yes. It will be published on the Cairns Road Runners Website, Facebook page and in The Cairns Post.
What do I do when I finish? …When you cross the finish line, you will be given a tag – take it to the Recording Desk and hand it in, together with your race number. Enjoy the entertainment, cool down, stretch and drink plenty of water. Enjoy the fruit and pastries that are available.
Can I volunteer at the event? ….Yes please! We need people to help with manning water stations, helping with registration, timing and at the finish.
